Two House incumbents to face 2008 challenges

Friday, June 22, 2007

Two candidates announced plans this week to run against incumbent state reps -- one Democrat and one Republican.

Second termer Democrat incumbent Careen Gordon in the 75th State Rep District will be challenged by Bourbannais Republican David McAloon.

McAloon told The Times it was a good time to announce his 2008 challenge because  "People are definitely looking for more responsible leadership in Springfield."

Three-term Republican incumbent, Glenview-based State Rep. Elizabeth Coulson will be challenged in 2008 by Daniel Bliss.  Bliss says the 17th state rep district should be represented by a Democrat that can get things done because Democrats are in power.

Gordon was rated by the United Republican Fund's Mid-Session report with a 50.  Coulson scored a 40 on the URF's scorecard.
