State House candidate David McAloon says
sandbox playing time is over in Springfield.
“It's time for the adults to get in there
and do something,” the Bourbonnais Republican said Tuesday about his run for the seat now held by incumbent State Representative
Careen Gordon, D-Morris.
Speaking during a campaign stop at the local Holiday Inn Express, McAloon outlined seven key
legislative goals he said Republicans will focus on and work to achieve results for Illinois
residents.
“The things that people want to see in Springfield,”
he said, recounting some of the remarks he's picked up while campaigning throughout the district this summer.
“They're
saying they are tired of dysfunctional government. They're tired of rising taxes and pushing debt off onto their kids and
grandkids.”
McAloon called attention to the state's
lack of a capital budget plan for the past nine years. Investment in Illinois
is what drives the state's economy, he said.
“We've got a $9 billion federal highway fund in Illinois that will
just get flushed if it's not used,” he said, speaking of the deteriorating condition of the state's highways and bridges
- in particular, Illinois 45 where he said motorists often drive on the shoulder to escape the potholes and broken pavement.
“You
generate the economy by generating jobs, not by taxing people.”
Another key point is for the state to not spend
more revenue than it takes in, he noted.
“Cost-shifting is not balancing the
budget,” he added. “It just means higher taxes for us.”
Regarding property tax relief for Illinois citizens, McAloon would like to raise the limit on senior citizen and Homestead
Exemption as a first step.
“I don't think state government should get any more revenue at all,” he added.
“If we cut taxes, it would drive our economic growth. The whole system needs to be redone - it has to be changed. Our
representatives are not doing their job.”
He said the funding mechanism for public schools is out of balance
in Illinois.
“We're a slice of America,” he said of the state. “What happens
here happens in the rest of the nation.”
Illinois is doing nothing to track online predators and protect children, said
McAloon
“Nothing except talk,” he noted. “That's while they are on line, looking for their next victim.”

Aiding families in affording a college
education is a priority in the state, he said.
“A primary responsibility as a state to take care of our schools,”
McAloon said. “It's cost-shifting again, and not focusing on funding and integrity in the schools.”
McAloon
said legislators are in Springfield for one purpose - to take care of the people of the state.
“Our
priorities are out of line in state government, and they are doing things that shouldn't be done,” he said. “We
need to look at the entire funding mechanism in the state, and not tax productivity. The mechanism they're doing just flat
out doesn't work.”
The change in government takes political will and courage, McAloon pointed out.
He
also advocates revamping the IllinoisState
constitution written in 1970.
“This one we have allows those in power to stay in power,” he said.
McAloon
said the present state constitution provides for only recall of the governor from office, but should apply to all elected
politicians.
Most changes he espouses do not need constitutional change to be put into action, McAloon said.
The
current campaign marks McAloon's second try for the 75th District seat.
In private life, he is a television producer
in Tinley Park for industries on a worldwide basis.
